Digital (E) Tools
Most teachers and students are familiar with Google drive, video editors, file converters, and other general digital tools, which are also great for English language learning purposes. Here I've tried to share ones more specific to language learning that not everyone may be familiar with, both online and as downloaded apps for your devices.
Online Tools
Text Summarizer Increase summarizing skills. Cut and paste long texts. Choose the % output. Key word option.
Subscene Find and download English movie and TV subtitles (captions) to your video.
Acapela Box Text reader (machine voice). The text reader in MS Edge also works great.
Phonetic Translator Type in English and generate IPA - British or American pronunciation
Rubistar Create the rubric you need for any assessment
Mentimeter Student surveys, random student selector, etc.
For Your Devices
I've left out the skill-specific apps that you can find on the websites and apps page.
Eclipse Crossword Crossword puzzle generator
Offline Dictionary Not all dics are the same... make sure you get one with words you need. For most SE Asian languages, I recommend Innovative-Software. Bappi (Indonesian), and Paiboon (Thai) are also great.
Google Translate Besides voice-to-text features, check out the camera, which instantly translates signs and text your camera sees.
Flashcard App Great for vocab learning, with auto spaced repetition. My favorite ones are Memrise and Anki.
For more info, you can have a look at my Master's thesis on this topic.
Grammar Checker Grammarly and ProWritingAid are the two best.
VLC Player Hands down the best for language learning. You can: increase volume above 100%, slow down playback (great for helping you understand spoken dialogue), use an equalizer to increase the volume and clarity of voice, add subtitle track (captions). And, it still plays almost any file type created . . .
FlashBack Express Free screen capture and recorder with options for file saving.
AirDroid Allows you to mirror your phone screen for display from a pc, in case your phone lacks MHL compatibility.
